Great Teppanyaki at a Fair Price
Reviewer: Brian Combs
Hidden at the intersection of RR620 and Anderson Mill Road is Nagoya Steak & Sushi is one of the best spots for teppanyaki (aka hibachi grill) in Austin. The Wife and I have been there at least ten times, and the show has yet to get old.
There are quite a few places around town that offer table-side teppanyaki. Many are more expensive than Nagoya, but I have yet to find one that was better. And if you look a bit, you can generally find a coupon, whether on their website, their email list, or in a local magazine like Austin Monthly.
The Wife usually gets the Rib Eye hibachi, while I get the scallops. The rib eye is tender and flavorful. Scallops are difficult to cook correctly, so I don’t get them very often, but Nagoya nails it. They’re cooked through, but always shy of the rubberiness that scallops can have.
The fried rice is a “must get” option, as is the asparagus (when they offer it).
The sushi and sashimi are good. There’s certainly better in town, but they’re good enough to have a piece or two as an add on.
