American Idol Top Seven (Redux) Performances

Disco Week: The scariest two words ever heard by an American Idol contestant.

And this week proved why that is the case.

Lil Rounds
What We Suggested: “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge
What She Performed: “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Khan

Pitchy and karaoke, but at least it looks like she’s having fun. It’s her best performance in a while, but that’s not a very high bar.

I’m becoming more and more convinced that she’s just not that great a singer.

Kris Allen
What We Suggested: “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” by Andy Gibb
What He Performed: “She Works Hard for the Money” by Donna Summer

Ryan said there would be curve balls. That’s a good thing during Disco Week.

Cool arrangement and he sounds great. Never in a million years would I thought have going that direction, but it really worked.

Danny Gokey
What We Suggested: “Lady (You Bring Me Up)” by the Commodores
What He Performed: “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire

I don’t understand the constant, over-the-top praise from the judges. It was bad karaoke at best. The Wife said she felt like she should be roller skating to it.

The bridge of the song was unique and I liked it. Why didn’t he do that with the rest of the song?

At least he didn’t do “Copacabana”.

Allison Iraheta
What We Suggested: “Call Me” by Blondie
What She Performed: “Hot Stuff” by Donna Summer

Donna Summer was potentially a good choice for Allison, although “Hot Stuff” was a bit too predictable.

Her version was too slow, and she was behind the beat. I don’t know if it’s exhaustion, but her timing and rhythm seem to be getting worse every week.

I thought it was ok, but not good. The Wife really did not like the performance.

Adam Lambert
What We Suggested: “Stayin’ Alive” from “Saturday Night Fever”
What He Performed: “If I Can’t Have You” from “Saturday Night Fever”

Right movie; wrong song.

I certainly wasn’t expecting him to slow it down. Adam always does the opposite of what you expect.

Great arrangement and fantastic vocal.

Matt Giraud
What We Suggested: “Heaven Knows” by Donna Summer
What He Performed: “Stayin’ Alive” from “Saturday Night Fever”

I wonder if Adam lost in a game of rock-paper-scissors to Matt.

I don’t know why, but as I watched Matt’s performance, I couldn’t help but imagine that a bunch of muppets were on stage dancing along with him.

It wasn’t a horrible arrangement, but he just doesn’t have the talent to pull it off.

Anoop Desai
What We Suggested: “How Deep is Your Love” by the Bee Gees
What He Performed: “Dim All the Lights” by Donna Summer

Anoop couldn’t decide whether he wanted to go fast or slow, so he tried both. It didn’t work.

I didn’t hate it as much as the Wife, but it wasn’t good. It was also his worst vocal in several weeks.

So, after a night with too many train wrecks, and only two performances I actually liked (Kris and Adam), the Bottom Three are most likely going to be Matt, Lil and Anoop, with Allison really close to the bubble.

Kris, Danny and Adam should be safe.

The Bottom Two will most likely be Lil and Anoop, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Matt take his place.
