ESPN is now ranking Lake Travis quarterback, and Texas Longhorns commit, Garrett Gilbert as the top quarterback in the country, according to InsideTexas.com (hat tip to Amy for the link). Gilbert also moved to the fifth spot overall among high school seniors.
Last week, Gilbert was named the Gatorade Player of the Year. Past winners of the award include Peyton Manning (1993) and Emmitt Smith (1986). With one game left this season, he has passed for 4,484 yards and 51 touchdowns, and run for 21 more.
Gilbert’s Cavaliers play for the Texas 4A Championship against Longview this weekend at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco. They won last year’s championship at this same stadium.
