I’ve waited about a week to record my thoughts on the firing of Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong. Coach Strong did a lot of things in the right way, and I desperately wanted him to succeed. Both for my beloved Horns and to verify some of my beliefs about football.
But as the season wore on, I began to wonder whether he was going to get things done. And, the loss to the Kansas Jayhawks made it clear to …
A few days into the season, and it's already been a heck of a roller coaster.
The attendance was down a bit at today’s Austin Longhorn Club, but not as much as I had expected given the team’s showing (or lack thereof) the last two weeks. The featured speaker was wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Darrell Wyatt.
Notable attendees included DeLoss Dodds and Ronnie Brown. I talked to Ronnie briefly afterwards, and he’s really slimmed down since his playing days. He’s working for the Longhorn Foundation now.

Bryan Harsin dialed up some trickeration in the Oklahoma State-Texas game this weekend, with David Ash handing off to Malcolm Brown on a Statue of Liberty play. Brown took it to the house, although I'm blocked by someone jumping up in front of me.
Heck of a fake, however.
If you look at the numbers, pretty much any of the numbers, the Texas Longhorns don’t have any chance of beating the Oklahoma Sooners Saturday in the Red River Shootout (as it will always be known, as far as I’m concerned). And, going into the season, I would have agreed.
But, something strange happened on the way to winning our first four games: I began to believe in this team.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think the most likely …
