Trickin’ it to the Treats

with one comment

Scott Gairdner parodying Michael McDonald’s “Takin’ it to the Streets” in a Halloween theme. Yes, it’s really stupid, but I absolutely love it.

Happy Halloween, y’all!

KXAN back on Time Warner

without comments

As I discussed perviously, KXAN and LIN had to cut a deal with Time Warner before November 1st. Lo and behold, yesterday the deal got done.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed by either side, but I don’t expect that Time Warner gave up much. In a down economy, KXAN simply couldn’t afford the reduction in advertising rates that would come from being off of Time Warner during the November sweeps.

The Austin Business Journal claims that Time…

New York City Photoblog

with one comment

The very first vacation Shea and I went on together was to New York City in January of 2006. Shea was celebrating a milestone birthday (no, I won’t say which), so we splurged and stayed at the Essex House on Central Park South. The rooms there were amazing. It must have been more than 500 square feet.

It was the first time i had ever stayed at an actual hotel with a walk-in closet. It was so large, that you…

8 Conspiracy-Free Ways Obama Could Lose The Election

with 5 comments

I have previously stated that McCain is done, and that Obama is going to win this thing. On the other hand, nothing is really done until it’s done. So, what are the scenarios under which he could lose?

While I’m the first to admit that conspiracy theories are fun, they rarely reflect reality. As a result, I’m going to just look at those ways that are at least somewhat possible.

1. The young and/or first time voters don’t turn

Texas versus Oklahoma State 2008

without comments

On a hot, late October Saturday afternoon, the Oklahoma State Cowboys gave the top ranked Texas Longhorns all they could handle. I was wrong about the Over/Under (I picked the Over), but it certainly was the closest game the Longhorns have played all season. OSU was every bit the top ten team that they were (and will hopefully remain) ranked, and Texas was a bit lucky to get out of there with a win.

That said, it’s virtually…

Another Saturday; Another Tough Game for the Texas Longhorns

with one comment

November 13, 2004 – DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium – Austin, Texas – Oklahoma State is beating Texas by 35-7 with less than two minutes left in the first half. Fair-weather fans are already leaving. Texas puts together a nice drive to go into the half down by three touchdowns. Coach Mack Brown promises the team they’re going to win 42-35.

He lied.

Texas scores six touchdowns in the second half to win 56-35.

Fortunately, most of the crowd (myself included) had…

Tara Hunt at HiMA’s Interactive Strategies

with one comment

As I posted earlier this week, today I was speaking for Apogee Search at HiMA’s Interactive Strategies conference in Houston, Texas. The keynote was given by Tara ‘missrogue’ Hunt, the principal of Citizen Agency.

The title of her keynote was:

Makin’ Wuffie
5 keys for maxing social capital and winning with online communities

My notes from her presentation follow.

“Wuffie” comes from a Cory Doctorow book. It is fairly equivalent to influence, trust, etc. In his world, when…

Weekend in Port Townsend, Washington

with 2 comments

After the ride on the Seattle to Bainbridge Island Ferry, we drove up the Olympic Peninsula to Port Townsend to visit my aunt and uncle.

Port Townsend, Washington is a community of about 8,000 two hours northwest of Seattle. It boasts many Victorian buildings from it heydays of the 1900′s, where it was a center of ship building.

Ross and Mary took us on a tour of the town center and the parks surrounding it. In fact, it…
