Texas Longhorns Orange-White Scrimmage

The Texas Longhorns closed out their spring training schedule with the annual scrimmage Sunday afternoon. What started humbly with just a handful of die-hard fans is beginning to resemble the full game-day experience (if only vaguely). It included the team running in and most of the supporting organizations, (the Longhorn Band, cheerleaders, and pom squad).

Photoblog: Giants vs. Cowboys Game Photos, Part One

As I posted previously, we were on the second row of the upper deck, so we had a great view.

Unfortunately, much of the view was taken up by the four, um, “ladies” in front of us. I’m fairly confident that they were all ex-strippers, and I suspect that they might have looked good at some point in the 1980’s. Let’s just say they were past their prime.

They were all very drunk (with perhaps some other chemicals involved), …

Photoblog: Giants vs. Cowboys Pregame

This past weekend, I attended my first NFL game, and more importantly, my first Dallas Cowboys game. The wife bought me a pair of tickets for my birthday a few months back, and I was nice enough to bring her with me.

To say it was a different environment from a Longhorn game is a huge understatement. While there is certainly drinking going on before (and during) a college game, the number of truly smashed fans is relatively small. At …

Lake Travis vs. Killeen – Texas 4A Quarterfinals

Future Texas Longhorn QB Garrett Gilbert took the field for the first time at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for the first of many Saturdays to come, and his Lake Travis Cavaliers routed the Killeen Kangaroos by a score of 71-9 in the State 4A Quarterfinals.

Gilbert threw for 360 yards and four touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also accounted for two interceptions and two fumbles. Lake Travis rolled for 621 yards total offense and never had to punt.

Killeen managed only …

Texas versus Texas A&M Thoughts & Pictures

Order was restored to the universe Thursday evening, with Texas defeating Texas A&M by the largest margin of victory in the series since the 19th century, Mack Brown getting his 200th career win, and the Longhorns taking sole possession of the record for the second most winning program in NCAA football. Was it enough to hold off Oklahoma in the BCS chase? Maybe. Maybe not. It was a impressive victory, and Mack Brown was able to maintain his classiness by calling off the dogs early in the fourth quarter. From here, we just have to let the chips fall where they may.

Texas versus Baylor Recap

It’s good to be back to my underestimating ways with the Longhorns. I predicted a score of Texas 35 – Baylor 14, while the final score turned out to be Texas 45 – Baylor 21. I was also incorrect in how empty I thought it would be at kickoff:

While there certainly were some sparse areas, I was impressed with the number of students there at kickoff, hangovers and all. Total attendance was 97,715, but I can’t imagine that …

Texas versus Oklahoma State 2008

On a hot, late October Saturday afternoon, the Oklahoma State Cowboys gave the top ranked Texas Longhorns all they could handle. I was wrong about the Over/Under (I picked the Over), but it certainly was the closest game the Longhorns have played all season. OSU was every bit the top ten team that they were (and will hopefully remain) ranked, and Texas was a bit lucky to get out of there with a win.

That said, it’s virtually impossible …

Texas versus Missouri 2008

I am beginning to make a habit of underestimating this year’s Texas Longhorns, having predicted a two touchdown win over the Missouri Tigers yesterday. Instead, Texas dominated Missouri, running up a 35-3 lead in the first half. Texas lost focus in the second half, letting Missouri score a few times, and finished the game winning 56-31. In reality, the game was not even as close as the nearly four touchdown lead at the end suggested.

The atmosphere and crowd at …

UT versus Arkansas 2008

The Piggies came to town today. I still have post traumatic stress disorder from their last visit. No problems today, however, as Texas wins by the score of 52-10 for the third time this year (fourth win total). A great first step on their six week tough road.

Pregame was the usual great show.

I managed to get a couple of decent shots of the game, even though I only had my wife’s little digicam (the only long lenses …

UT versus Rice 2008

After an unexpected bye week due to Hurricane Ike, yesterday saw the return of Longhorn Football to Austin, with another game against Rice. The Owls have been improving over the last few years, and they came in with high expectations.

The wife and I headed down to campus early enough to hang out in the tent for the University of Texas Club and listen to the live band. The music was being performed by Dysfunktion Junktion, an Austin band, and …
