Ten Best Movies of 2014

Technically, these are the ten best 2014 movies that I saw. If your favorite isn’t on the list, I probably didn’t see it.

Or maybe I just thought it sucked.

10. Maleficent

With everyone getting on the Rewrite a Fairy Tale bandwagon that Wicked started, this idea seems a bit played. Still, an entertaining, if predictable, movie.

9. The Equalizer

Yes, the pacing is off at times, and the final battle is a bit inane, but the scenes between Denzel …

Does Texas Health Presbyterian Survive?

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, where Thomas Duncan was diagnosed with Ebola, has seen a major decline in revenue. The hospital has reported a 50% drop in ER visits, and a 20% drop in daily patient census.

Couple that with a wave of negative reviews coming in, and even full page apologies may not be enough to survive. Earlier reports called Texas Health Presbyterian a ghost town.

Look, whichever hospital was first to receive an Ebola patient was …

Even More on the Ebola Outbreak

Imagine for a moment that you’re a screenwriter.

You’re working on a sequel to Outbreak, and a major plot point is that the nurse who has been exposed to the disease is told by the CDC that it’s ok to fly with a low grade fever.

Do you think there would be resistance to the realism of this point in a pitch meeting?

So, when The Wife asked me to watch them on Good Morning America with her, I agreed.

Debbie Gibson looks pretty much the same, albeit older. For her age, she looks great though. Don’t understand why she dresses like Britney Spears though.

She sounded horrible, though. …

American Idol Top Eleven Redux Performances

With the Judges Save being used on Casey last week, two people go home tonight. It’s definitely not a good week to have a bad performance.

The theme of the week is Elton John songs, so we’re clearly using the highly constrained themes this season. Too bad, I liked the looser approach of the first couple of weeks.

And, I like Elton John, but how can the producers expect the performers to develop their own style if they’re forced into …

American Idol Top Eleven Performances

The Top Eleven competed last night using hits from Motown. I’m not a fan of the “weekly themes” approach, but at least this is a theme with a wide range of songs. The ones I really hate are the single artist themes.

In any case, on to the recaps…

Casey Abrams
I Heard It Through the Grapevine by Marvin Gaye

It was ok, but I didn’t love it. It never felt like it was going anywhere.

The Wife: Solid performance, …
