For the first time I can remember, I will be watching the Red River Rivalry from outside the state of Texas, as I finish up my trip to Port Townsend, Washington today.
Frankly, I’m not sure what to expect in this game. My Texas Longhorns are clearly better than I expected this season, but that seems to also be the case with the Oklahoma Sooners.
That Sooner passing game is impressive. They fire the ball deep better than anyone I’ve seen in some time. The running game is a bit weaker than expected, but the passing game more than makes up for it.
The defense seems great as well, but then they haven’t exactly played a high octane offense. If Texas doesn’t go one-dimensional, they should be able to move the ball and score. I’d like to see the running game consist of more than Colt McCoy, however.
The Texas defense is the big question. They’re quite talented, but they’re also rather young. Each week they get more experienced, and last week against Colorado they looked positively salty at times.
My best guess is that we’re looking at something of an offensive shoot-out.
In any case, Hook’em Horns!
